From forming great relationships and friendships with your campers and fellow counselors at camp, to looking forward to new exciting activities after camp, it really feels like a home away from home. The special bond you form with your host family is something so unique and unexpected, and allows you to get an authentic Michigan experience. There are so many opportunities to try new activities that some of us internationals can’t try at home and, who doesn’t love going on a minimum of two swims a day?

I worked at Willoway for many years because I met lots of amazing people and made some amazing friends.  It seemed a little daunting to come over from England, but my host family and the existing camp staff made me feel so welcome and now Willoway is my second home.  During the camp days, I was able to help campers have great fun swimming and playing.  In the evenings, I was able to hang out with camp friends and explore all the Michigan has to offer.
